For my placement I wish to work with an organisation that helps individuals, families and communities with the effects and issues that come with drugs and alcohol. I have contacted a wide range of organisations and have received my first few emails of rejections. Even though these emails are disheartening, I understood from the start that I would face setbacks. I will not let this discourage me from continuing with my search. The stress grows…

They are located in Brisbane. Drug ARM Australasia is a not-for-profit organisation founded upon Christian values and principles, committed to reducing harms associated with alcohol and other drug use.
Drug ARM Australasia provides a vital outreach of care and compassion through programs and services that assist individuals, families and communities throughout New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
I emailed them about a student placement and they sent me information about their next vacancy in April, for student placements over a period of 6 months. I would email you this information; however, I deleted it because I am not doing my placement with them.

Oh dear – keep your chin up! Something will fall into place. Ivanka’s idea sounds good. Where are you located? My cousin manages a rehab place on the Central Coast of NSW – which is women’s only, so wouldn’t work for you, but she might have contacts… Let me know if you’d like me to follow-up with her.

Hi Michael,
Try not to be too disheartened – it can take a bit of time to find a a placement. In the past, students have often contacted organisations by telephone – it may be worth trying to identify key people who could assist in the organisation, and giving them a call. Ivanka has provided some great information, definitely worth following up on this. If any other students have ideas do let Michael know.
