The last year of University has officially started

Hi everyone,

I am still trying to learn how to use this blog. I know how to add new posts and view the comments by other users but that is it. I am sorry if there is a comment function to acknowledge I have seen the messages. I do appreciate all the helpful tips and suggestions people have made and the continual support.

My placement search has started to gain a fair bit of momentum. I have had some good responses to my enquiries to a placement opportunities at various organisations. This process is going to take much longer than I had anticipated. Each organisation I have talked to I have been referred and transferred to various people from different departments and to others with different roles. For one organisation  it took 2 hours of making phone calls to various departments to get into contact with a placement coordinator for an organisation to only find that he was on holidays and there was another people who was doing his cover. Emails that were supposed to be sent out I have not received and trying to follow up all my enquiries have been a little overwhelming. Email is a great tool but it does take quite some time for some  people to respond. Overall I am making process in my placement search and hopefully my perseverance of sending out CV’s and phone calls will pay off. I am considering using a diary to keep track of who I have contacted, who I have received applications for and who I still need to follow up.

Cheers,

Michael

First setbacks

For my placement I wish to work with an organisation that helps individuals, families and communities with the effects and issues that come with drugs and alcohol. I have contacted a wide range of organisations and have received my first few emails of rejections. Even though these emails are disheartening, I understood from the start that I would face setbacks. I will not let this discourage me from continuing with my search. The stress grows…

and it begins…

Good evening,

My name is Michael Vo and I am currently in my final year of my Bachelor of Public Health degree! The moodle site for term 1 is up and running and even though the actual term does not start I thought I would get a head start and get myself ready for this year.

In the future I wish to work with an organisation that is focused on drugs and alcohol and found myself building a passion for this area. To get term 1 rolling I have sent out emails and inquiries to various organisations such as QuIHN, Brisyouth, Liveslivedwell and DoveTail for potential placement opportunities. I plan to spend my spare time reading through the latest journal articles relating to drug and alcohol and health promotion and researching the various organisations I applied for to prepare myself for potential interviews and meetings.

Hope to hear from everyone else in the same boat as me.

Michael
